The Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC) continues to invest in strengthening governance and leadership capability across its group, with another round of CIIC Group Director Training held last week.

Since its inception in 2018, the CIIC Group Director Training programme has provided ongoing professional development for directors, executives, and managers from across the CIIC family of entities — covering a wide range of topics including governance, strategy, finance, and risk.

This year’s training introduced an exciting new module — “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)” — facilitated by Mr Shahram Saboori, an experienced IT professional who previously lived and worked in the Cook Islands as an IT Manager and continues to lead digital transformation initiatives abroad.

The three-day programme brought together Board Directors, Chief Executives, Senior Executives, Administrators, Operational Managers, and Technical Staff from across the CIIC Group to explore both traditional and emerging areas of governance.

One session focused on CIIC Group Directors and CEOs, introducing participants to AI concepts and practical applications such as Co-Pilot for Email & Tasks, Meetings Made Easy, Working Smarter with Documents, Creative and Strategic Thinking, Everyday Hacks & Time Savers, and Visioning – From Co-Pilot to AI Agents.

Another session extended the training to senior and operational leaders, covering AI concepts, Email Productivity Hacks, Meeting Prep & Follow-Up, Documents & Reports, Data & Scheduling Shortcuts, Everyday Communication, and Visioning – From Co-Pilot to AI Agents.

In addition, Deep Dive sessions were held with individual CIIC Group entities to explore tailored applications of governance and digital innovation within their specific operational contexts.

CIIC Chair Fletcher Melvin said the ongoing training underscores CIIC’s commitment to good governance and continuous improvement.

“Building capability within our boards and management teams is vital to delivering quality public assets and services. This year’s focus on AI reflects our drive to stay ahead of emerging technologies and ensure our people are equipped to work smarter and lead with confidence,” said Mr Melvin.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for CIIC, Hon. Albert Nicholas, commended the programme, saying:

“The CIIC Group continues to set the standard for public sector governance and leadership. Investing in our people is how we build the capability to manage our Crown assets effectively and deliver lasting benefits for the Cook Islands.”
