The Building Services Team (BST) at Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC) is pleased to confirm the successful completion of urgent roof replacement works at Takitumu School, with construction completed on 24 April 2026 during the April school holidays.
The project involved the removal and replacement of the defective roofing system over the Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms, staffroom, and library.
The works were undertaken following ongoing issues with roof leaks and water ingress which continued to impact the learning environment, despite temporary repair works completed in December 2025.
Funding for the project enabled the works to be carefully planned and delivered in a way that minimised disruption to students and staff, ensuring improvements could be completed with minimal impact on day-to-day school activities.
The scope of works included:
• replacement of the defective roof
• repairs to ceiling and structural areas affected by water damage
• removal and replacement of mould-affected materials
• replacement of damaged gutters and downpipes
These improvements now provide students and staff with a safer, more secure, and watertight learning environment.
Vasie Ngatoko-Poila, General Manager Asset Management at CIIC, said maintaining safe and functional learning environments remained an important priority.
“Students and teachers can now return to learning spaces that are safer, healthier, and better protected from the elements. These improvements provide a more comfortable and dependable environment for teaching and learning, while also helping safeguard the school’s facilities for years to come.”
Apii Takitumu Principal Mrs Tarota Carfax-Foster acknowledged the completion of the project and the positive impact it would have on the school community.
“On behalf of the Takitumu School PTA, staff, and students, we extend a big meitaki maata to CIIC and the Building Services Team for completing these important roofing works. The improvements have made a significant difference to our school environment, providing a safer and more comfortable space for both teaching and learning. We appreciate the support and commitment shown towards our school community.”
CIIC also acknowledges the support and cooperation of the Takitumu School administration, staff, and contractors involved in successfully delivering the project within the scheduled timeframe.
